Tom Jones Fans Vent Anger After Gig Glitch
The Welsh showbiz legend had got some way through his Saturday night set in a field beside Alnwick Castle, Northumberland, when a generator apparently failed for a second time.
People had paid £45 for tickets, with the VIP section costing £95, but were not allowed to bring in food or drink.
THE ironic moment Tom Jones sang “you can turn on the lights” as the pyrotechnics dazzled thousands of fans before plunging them into darkness has been posted online.
Neil Winterbottom, director of the company behind the concert, Loose Cannon Events, has now apologised in a statement which reads: “Unfortunately, during Sir Tom Jones’ performance… there was an issue with the generator power supply which meant that the concert finished abruptly”.
Sir Tom and his band left the stage following the power cut and, after around ten minutes, an official emerged to announce that the show had been abandoned and the star had left the site following a “local power failure”.
“I wish to make it clear that this situation is not associated with the artist or his management team or Alnwick Castle”.
“Tom really enjoyed performing to the North East crowd and was extremely disappointed that the concert ended in this manner”.
In response, Phil Mawson from Seaham, County Durham, wrote on the Loose Cannon page: “I’m afraid technical issues doesn’t cover it”.
“The entire planning and management of the event was poor in the extreme”.
Jane Richards Henry said: “I await my FULL refund!!”
“After the concert was abandoned, I spoke to a number of people, who all agreed that the event organisation had been shambolic from start to finish”.
Twitter users were just as unamused, with one saying: “Full refund please we paid to see Tom Jones not The Shadows!!!”
The petition, set up by Bristol fan Sophie Hall, states “many, if not all, (fans) were left disappointed” and adds: “This is a petition for those who attended the event, who would like explanations and information regarding possibility of refunds”. Owing to this, we formally request an explanation as to what went wrong. We request that the findings of this investigation are made available to those who attended as soon as possible.
