Authorities say Indianapolis police fatally shot 15-year-old

The teenager was killed by police after being suspected of carjacking.

When the driver tried to make a U-Turn on Butler Avenue, officers turned on the emergency lights and sirens on a police vehicle. Police said witnesses had reported that the carjacking suspects fired shots at bystanders as they drove away in the vehicle. Crowe did say there was a handgun in the vicinity of the suspect after he exited the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Twitter users expressed outrage at his death.

“There was someone else in the auto with him”, said Malonda Lamb, who said she is victim Andre Green’s cousin.

There is not now an active search for the other passengers, police said.

Indianapolis Director of Public Safety David Wantz would not comment on whether or not he felt that his officers were justified in shooting the suspect. According to police, officers were not wearing body cameras and the shooting was not captured on dash cam video.

People who knew Green from the Mapleton-Fall Creek neighborhood say he had been part of youth group talks about interacting with police.

His activities in the neighborhoods and his social media postings lead investigators to believe the teen was “troubled”, the assistant police chief said. Riddle said the three officers at the scene of the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, and the internal affairs unit will investigate. We’ll update if and when we do.

“We can say with confidence that officers were faced with aggression and they met that aggression head-on”, said IMPD officer Chris Wilburn.

Another relative urged the others who were in the auto to provide information about the shooting. “Because you saw. You saw something”. In this particular incident, he said they feel the officers’ lives were in danger. You saw them shoot him, you saw them chase him, you saw something.

“He would just be there to brighten up your day”, sister Tericka Jackson told WISH. “Please come forward”. This is a standard IMPD procedure following a police involved shooting.
