“All of us, 96 in all, are now being arrested”.
After Yogendra Yadav was detained, his colleague Prashant Bhushan got into a verbal altercation with the police.
The former AAP leader narrated the incident in a series of tweets. The permission for the protest was given only till August 10. They had also expressed their intention to install a symbol of protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence, which they want to call a farmer’s memorial. “Until Sunday, we had no information that tractors are not allowed in the city”, Singh said, adding that the route for the march had been suggested by the police. The protesters had wanted to hold a demonstration at Jantar Mantar on Monday morning. “Yogender Yadav has been illegally detained“, Bhushan said.
Mr Yadav claimed that the Delhi police personnel did not let around 200 tractors from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh enter the capital despite having the requisite permission. I have been beaten up, manhandled, dragged, pushed and arrested at the parliament street police station. “We hope this small satyagraha will bring some awareness about the situation of farmers”, he said.
Yadav, founder member of Swaraj Abhiyan group, was taking part in a protest by farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan against the controversial amendments to the land acquisition law that the Centre has proposed.
“In the last five yrs, three lakh farmers have committed suicide due to faulty policies on MSP and costs”.
