San Jose police shoot, kill suspect in stabbing Sunday
A man armed with a shotgun was reportedly shot at by San Jose police officers this morning and found dead after a standoff.
Officers arrived and “observed a male with a shotgun”, Morales said.
Two men are dead after separate police clashes where officers opened fire on armed suspects in a six-hour span bridging Sunday and Monday, authorities said. Police have set up a perimeter around the house, but the suspect has not responded to requests to come out.
They marked the city’s second and third officer-involved shootings in just over a week, amid a spike in violent crime that spurred the San Jose Police Department to ramp up its presence downtown and in East San Jose.
No other information is available at this time.
Police say neither officer was hurt in the confrontation. The suspect died shortly after he was shot, Morales said. The suspect had fled the scene, but officers found who they thought might have done it near San Antonio and Avenue and Packing Place and fired their guns at him because they “feared for their safety”, Morales said.
At 12:11 a.m., officer responded to the 1300 block of San Marcos Drive, after a woman called to report that her brother had showed up to the residence intoxicated and with a gun, threatening to harm himself, according to police.
San Jose police officers were involved in two officer-involved shootings in about six hours – and at least one of them was fatal.
The victim is being treated for serious wounds at a hospital.
