Coach Paul Chryst is pumped up for new start with Badgers
Joel Stave is the unquestioned starter.
“Defensively, it’s communication. But offensively and defensively, we want to install both of our schemes this week so it’s a lot on the kids but I think they can handle it”.
“I’m kind of an aggressive person”, said linebacker Vince Biegel “this whole week has been the calm before the storm, if you will, so I’ve been really… itching to get out there on the field”. Today the team held media day at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.
But Chryst didn’t reveal whether McEvoy would start on offense or defense.
“I love being around these guys”.
In his return to Wisconsin, Chryst has brought stability to the quarterback position.
Chryst comes to Wisconsin from Pittsburgh. Even more troubling was Gary Andersen’s decision to leave the school for Oregon State after just two seasons as head coach.
The turning point came in the Big Ten opener against Northwestern where McEvoy played extremely poorly in the first half.
Orlando Sentinel college insider Matt Murschel ranked all 128 Football Bowl Subdivision teams in the country entering this season. Gordon led the nation in rushing, tallying 2,587 yards and 29 touchdowns, and his departure leaves Wisconsin looking for a new featured back.
He has also had maddeningly inconsistent stretches. The senior signal caller has endured highs and lows with the Badgers, but the hope is Stave can find the consistency that’s been lacking in his game with the help of Chryst and new offensive coordinator Joe Rudolph. Other times, it’s missing an open receiver on a deep ball.
Last season the quarterback group was in shambles. I still feel there is more knowledge to be gained from him.
For junior running back Corey Clement, he’ll have to step up and fill the vacancy Kenosha-native Melvin Gordon left. Receivers must emerge beyond senior Alex Erickson, a former walk-on. “But expect him to play both”.
Since being hired in December, Chryst has had to wait a long time for his first camp to begin.
