Over 2 000 migrants try to enter UK
An unknown number slipped through, authorities said. French media said he was the ninth migrant to be killed in the crisis since early June.
The issue has been a thorn in the side of Franco-British relations for years and May met Cazeneuve, for talks on the crisis on Tuesday.
It’s unclear how many migrants have actually succeeded in making it to Britain.
“First of all I would like you to ask yourself about the human resources you are planning on dedicating to secure the site”, Cazeneuve said in the letter, noting that the company has slashed its security staff by two thirds since 2002. “France is blaming Italy for giving documents to asylum-seekers, without checking them properly, so they can move on”. Cargo trucks were backed up overnight in Calais for several kilometres (miles) leading to the loading zone, some of them stuck on a highway overpass above one of the many makeshift migrant camps.
Many of those disembarking Wednesday were families, said Giovanna De Benedetto, spokeswoman for Save the Children in the port of Messina.
Calais is certainly feeling the strain.
Eurotunnel has announced, in the wake of the death, that it has blocked more than 37,000 people attempting to cross into the UK this year.
BEARDSLEY: As Britain, France and the tunnel management trade accusations about whose responsibility it is to keep the migrants from blocking access to the tunnel and creating problems for truckers and tourists, the migrants in Calais are living in squalid conditions and fighting for a better future.
The Eurotunnel company revealed frustration with the French authorities, with a spokesman saying: “This is an issue that is really for the government to sort out”.

The Road Haulage Association (RHA) called for the French army to be drafted in to help, and warned the lives of British lorry drivers are being put in danger – echoing concerns raised by Ukip leader Nigel Farage. It is believed that the man, in his 20s, was crushed by a lorry exiting the tunnel.
“I have every sympathy with holidaymakers who are finding access to Calais hard because of the disturbances there, and we’ll do everything we can to work with the French to bring these things to a conclusion”.
Britain has agreed up to seven million pounds of extra funding to help increase security at the tunnel’s French terminal at Coquelles, officials said.
Speaking in Vietnam during his south-east Asian tour, David Cameron said the UK would not be a “safe haven” for illegal immigrants. “It’s about working with the French, putting in place these additional security measures”. French officials, meanwhile, are concerned about approximately 3,000 migrants in mostly lawless encampments scattered in the Calais area. From there, they try to stow away on trucks and trains traveling to Britain.
According to the Daily Mail, two desperate migrants were seriously injured after being hit by a high-speed train, in what has been described as “one of the worst security breaches in the history of the undersea link”.
