Cam Newton, Josh Norman fight at training camp

The Carolina Panthers QB seems like an unlikely candidate, but it was go time Monday morning. Picking a fight with the franchise quarterback isn’t the best way of trying to earn a new contract for yourself.

Cam Newton – the guy who’s wearing red (meaning nobody is allowed to touch him) – got into it with cornerback Josh Norman after an interception.

According to the Charlotte Observer’s Jonathan Jones, Newton and Norman got into a scuffle after Norman intercepted a pass from Newton during team drills.

Rivera said he’s not anxious about Newton and Norman resuming the fight in the Wofford dorms. Newton pushed Norman once he reached the end zone. As he was being pulled from the bottom of the pile, Newton yelled to Norman, “Hit me like that again and you’ll know something”.

After the altercation, veteran linebacker and defensive leader Thomas Davis screamed at the fifth-year quarterback, saying, “That’s stupid”.

I know it’s the quarterback but we treat everybody the same. “And so, regardless that I blew the whistle, Josh stored going like he is taught and the offense continued to react”. Rivera later called the team up, and Newton made some brief remarks while players took a knee.

Looks as though both players came away unharmed, luckily for Panthers fans and Newton.

While training camp is usually full of these kinds of dust-ups, very rarely do you see it occurring where it involves the team’s quarterback. While I’m thinking wishfully I’ll add I hope Newton remains fight free the remainder of the preseason. It is unnecessary when it happens during a scuffle with a teammate.

The defense picked up its intensity in part at the prompting of defensive end Charles Johnson, who rallied them despite sitting out practice with a calf injury. “That is what happens”.

“You have to understand that, hey, you’re going to get stiff-armed. You’ve just got to handle it”. “Cam got up and talked to the guys about it a little bit, too”.
