Family reunites with dog missing for 9 years
Boozer the dog, a ten-year-old boxer mix, was only eight months old when he escaped from his new family in Tennessee while they were in the process of moving to Alabama.
Boozer was 8-months-old when he disappeared out of the family’s backyard, and this was the first time they’d seen him since he was a puppy. 9news.com Boozer had been taken care of by another family who moved to Colorado but had to give the animal up.
Foothills checked the dog’s microchip just in case, and it turns out: Another owner had been looking for Boozer all this time.
But judging from his reaction after seeing Goldston again after nine years, it is quite certain that he would say that animals do not forget the ones that love them – no matter how much time passes. “[My daughter] cried. My wife cried”.
On August 7, Goldston, along with his son and daughter, drove 18 hours from their home in Alabama to reunite with Boozer on Saturday morning. “Hey Boozer! Welcome back, buddy”. “It’s that level of emotion”.
A dog that has been missing for nine years was reunited with his owners at the Foothills Animal Shelter Saturday.
When Boozer was found by the Boxer rescue organization as a pup, wasn’t he scanned for a microchip? Shelter staff members then began the task of locating the family. “We can not emphasize to people enough to make sure there is permanent identification such as a microchip with your pet but also a collar and tags and a pet license”, said Strickland.
Goldston said it is still hard to believe the boxer is back.
“He’s lovely. Yes you are”.
The family was filled with emotion as they waited to reunite with the dog, wondering if he had been taken care of and whether he would recognize them.
