Prince Ali says Federation Internationale de Football Association can not be credible while Sepp Blatter leads
SFA chief executive Stewart Regan had previously signalled the governing body would continue to support the UEFA president in his attempt to succeed Sepp Blatter.
Prince Ali did not promise that he would make a second presidential bid to try to enact that change.
The 54 CAF member federations have traditionally been mostly loyal to Blatter, including in his 133-73 win over Prince Ali bin al-Hussein in May.
Prince Ali could outline campaign plans in September as a keynote speaker at the Soccerex conference in Manchester, England. “I have talked to sponsors and heard from them, just as everybody else who cares for the game, I think everybody is concerned about the situation” the prince said. The important thing is that there is a proper debate and things are based on a real platform..
Suggested reforms such as term limits for top officials, publishing their pay and stricter vetting of their integrity were rejected two years ago, when FIFAs then anti-corruption adviser Mark Pieth publicly criticized UEFA leaders for not supporting his work. Francois Carrard, a former worldwide Olympic Committee director general, has been approached but he has not yet given an answer.
Malta Football Association president Norman Darmanin Demajo was a supporter of Prince Ali’s leadership bid. “You have to have fresh people in there and he has been part of that system”.
