Woman Injured After Slingshot Ride Cable Snaps
The thrill seekers were lucky to escape with their lives.
A woman suffered a broken leg after a cable snapped on a ride at a French theme park, sending a cage crashing into a support column.
This not the first time that a slingshot ride has malfunctioned.
A video posted to YouTube by spectator Claude Pons at Luna Park in the town of Cap d’Agde shows the “Fifth Element” ride launch on the evening of August. 4 and “slingshot” up and down once while two passengers spin inside a ball-shaped vehicle.
But a pair of thrill seekers on such a ride in France got more than they bargained for when one of the cords snapped and sent them flying into a support pillar.
The cable vehicle continues to bob up and down, smashing into the stanchion to the right of the screen before eventually coming to a stop.
The woman, from Cher, France, was hospitalised with a broken leg, while the other person was not seriously injured, reported local newspaper Herault 24.
The director of the funfair said the accident was caused by a manufacturing defect in the elastic cable, Midilibre reported.
