Lenovo ThinkPad P50 and P70 First Look Preview
The ThinkPad P50 is touted as “Lenovo’s thinnest and lightest full-function mobile workstation yet” offering users with an excellent set of specifications.
Lenovo has launched two new workstations named ThinkPad P50 and P70 at the SIGGRAPH 2015 Conference and Exhibition.
The users will not have to pay a premium if they can do without things like 4K. The P series notebooks will also include a new fingerprint reader that you activate with a touch instead of a swipe.
There’s Intel Thunderbolt 3 in addition to Mini DisplayPort, support for a Smart Card and ExpressCard, a microphone and headphone combo jack, docking connector, Ethernet, four USB 3.0 ports, and HDMI.
Lenovo has updated its workstation portfolio with the newly-announced ThinkPad P50 and P70 laptops.
To get an Intel Xeon-powered machine that boasts durability and security features you need to turn to custom machines manufactured by boutique firms as getting these machines from a mainstream consumer brand is hard. Pricing for the P50 will begin at a RRP of $1599, and the P70 begins at RRP of $1999.
“The Lenovo ThinkPad P Series products are powerful mobile workstations for professional users…” A built-in X-Rite display calibrator ensures that all of those pixels display accurate colors, too. The Lenovo ThinkPad P50 and P70 will be available in the last quarter of this year.
Intel has its Core i7 processor for its notebook computing and we will see that lineup continue with the Skylake architecture as well but this is the first time the chip giant is deploying Xeon processors for notebook computing. To keep the Xeon processor ticking over contentedly Lenovo has designed a new dual-fan FLEX Performance Cooling system.
Lenovo says the P50 workstation was made for engineers and professional designers, and that it sports the first Intel Xeon processor that was designed for use in mobile workstations; there’s also NVIDIA Quadro graphics.
Both systems feature NVIDIA Quadro GPUs for unmatched graphics capability.
The new reader takes up more surface area, but is far easier to use, said Flynn, because it doesn’t require you to hold your finger at a specific angle or swipe your finger at a specific speed.
The P50 comes with a 15.6-inch display, a 5.6-pound body and a single Thunderbolt 3 port that complements the three storage bays and plenty of input.
The 17 inch laptop weighs more over 7 pounds and measures about 1.2 inches thick.
