Netball World Cup 2015: Scotland 24-71 Jamaica
Sydney Having staged the first major upset of the Netball World Cup by beating top-seeded Australia, New Zealand have avoided becoming the victim of the second, through a 55-48 defeat of fourth-ranked Jamaica at Allphones Arena on Tuesday night.
ENGLAND is about to suffer the wrath of an Australian team stung by its shock 52-47 loss to New Zealand at the World Cup.
But it was in the second quarter that the Sunshine Girls really let fly.
Scotland’s hopes of winning the Netball World Cup were ended by a crushing 71-24 defeat by Jamaica in their third and final Pool B game in Sydney. Long bombs to Romelda were being thrown from everywhere, and the Queensland Firebirds star did not just haul them in, but also showcased a repertoire that has broadened from the singular holding game she once favoured.
“Losing by six in one quarter was quite a big wake-up call, but I was pleased with the way we responded after halftime”.
The She Cranes had already done enough to make the quarterfinal stage.
Wales were in front until the third quarter, when Uganda took a 39-35 lead.
A faultless shooting display in the final period by Chelsea Lewis and Emma Thomas, who hit all 14 of her shots in the game, pushed Wales to victory and a spot in a pool containing England, South Africa and holders Australia.
The most successful two teams from each of the top-eight pools move into the semi-finals.
