Woman armed with knife shot by officer
Police say the woman is being treated at an area hospital; according to the Washington Post, D.C. police Chief Cathy Lanier said the woman was in stable condition.
Police in Washington D.C. said the woman, who has not been identified, is in a stable condition in hospital.
After the shot was fired, the woman remained standing and was said to be breathing and conscious. She was told to drop the weapon but did not comply and was shot once in the upper body as she advanced, Taylor said.
On the eve of the anniversary of Michael Brown being shot and killed during a confrontation with a police officer, Brown’s father said Saturday that the family still mourns the 18-year-old’s death.
“There is no policy that dictates every individual officer’s perception and every individual officer’s actions”, she said. One man, Gerald McBrayer, stated the lady was holding “a bit steak knife”, and acquired no warning. In them, an officer factors a pistol at a lady in a pink baseball-style hat.
“Put the knife down!” a bystander yells, just seconds before a gunshot is heard and the recording ends.
Lanier said investigators don’t know what prompted the woman to attack officers and there are no specific rules about how an officer is to respond to such an instance. The image above showing the firefighters advancing the line is from the video below posted on The Washington Post website.
Lanier said she understood videos had been made at the scene, and asked that they be made available to police.
