Drake Becomes First Artist With Platinum Album In 2015
If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late sold 535,000 copies in its first week, and debuted atop the Billboard 200.
In a sign of the growing dominance of digital music, Drake-a close collaborator of Apple-released “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” on iTunes two months before physical copies hit stores.
IYRTITL has moved 1.007 million units since it dropped in February, and is only the second LP to go platinum this year behind Taylor Swift’s 2014 album, 1989. Naturally, this status subjects him to criticism and challenges, like the recent one from Maybach Music Group / Atlantic recording artist Meek Mill.
Canadian hip-hop superstar Drake has earned himself another platinum plaque.
Drake celebrated the news by posting the album cover on Instagram, alongsise the caption: “Platinum off the tape. Views up next. Thank you once again”, he wrote while teasing his upcoming “Views From the 6” album that’s expected to be released later this year. Nothing Was The Same and Thank Me Later sold at least 1 million and Take Care has reached more than 2 million units sold.
