Tony Lara from Discovery’s ‘Deadliest Catch’ dies in Sturgis
Meade County Sheriff Ron Merwin said Lara died early Saturday morning in a private home in Sturgis, the Associated Press reported Monday.
Lara was 50-years-old when he passed away on Saturday.
Deadliest Catch star Tony Lara was found dead in his South Dakota home on August 8. Lara’s involvement with the Cornelia Marie was featured on the seventh season of Deadliest Catch. He was 50 years old.
After working alongside Capt. Phil Harris for years in the 1990s, Tony temporarily took over as captain when Phil died in 2010. The cause of his death hasn’t been revealed pending autopsy results.
A crabber who ran their own freighting company and first worked within the 1990s on the Cornelia Marie was a detailed friend. Tony says he wants to provide some “stability” for the Harris brothers, and doesn’t see many problems arising in the Cornelia Marie’s short Opie season.
