A dozen candid and unpublished photos of Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding reception are the featured items at a Boston-area auction scheduled for next month.
Two years ago his company, which has a long record of selling royal memorabilia, sold a pre-marriage photo of Diana with a male friend labelled “not to be published” for US$18,000.
Prince Andrew is seen leaning down to talk to Clementine in the fifth black and white photo. Prince Charles is also visible standing next to his mother, talking to a boy.
Another shows the newlyweds on the Buckingham Palace balcony overlooking the crowds gathered on the Mall below. There is even a picture of the Queen watching a TV showing the jubilant crowds celebrating outside.
“Lord Lichfield had me make up an album of black and white and colour photographs, which he presented to Prince Charles and Princess Diana to commemorate the day of their wedding”.
A private collection of behind-the-scenes photographs from the royal wedding of Charles and Diana is due to go on sale at auction, 34 years after the images were captured.
He was the shooter permitted to consider casual pictures of their visitors as well as the noble household about the evening once they delivered following the service to Buckingham Palace.
Comprising of seven black-and-white and five colour prints, the images are taken from a collection owned by an assistant to photographer Patrick Lichfield, who later became Lord Lichfield – the only photographer allowed to take informal images of the wedding party at the palace.
