EC to brief media about Bihar Assembly elections today
During the visit, the commissioners will take stock of preparations for Bihar Assembly elections, which the EC wants to hold before festival season begins in late October, they said.
The Election Commission (EC) will be on a two-day visit to Bihar from tomorrow before it finalises the dates for the Assembly elections in the state.
The EC team after considering the opinion of senior administrative officials including state Chief Secretary, Commissioners, IT officers and others with the feedback and announce the election dates soon.
The duo will reportedly be meeting administration and police officials besides the representatives of various political parties before taking a call on fixing the poll schedule.
He said that officials against whom complaints have been received from political parties will be reviewed once model code of conduct is in force.
The decision came after the poll body recently published the final electoral rolls in Bihar.
“We have directed all of the district magistrates that they need to guarantee provisioning of primary minimal amenities, reminiscent of drink water, bogs, lighting amenities and and so on”. The assembly polls, slated for later this year, will be a heated affair, with six parties having merged under the Janata Parivar banner contesting against the BJP and the Congress.
The CPMF deployed will also be used for area domination and confidence building measures among the public.
“Political parties have asked Election Commission to make effective arrangements so that people from weaker sections are not threatened”.
“Expenditure sensitive pockets have been identified and persons indulging in distribution of money, gifts, liquor have been marked”.
Zaidi pointed out that 52 per cent voters cast their vote during the 2010 Assembly polls in the state and he expected more voters will exercise their franchise this time.
