Jesse James struggles mightily in Pittsburgh Steelers preseason debut
Landry Jones spoke about his performance at Quarterback, saying, “There were good things and bad things”. Nothing is going to be given to you. A year ago there was only one when the 49ers flew to Baltimore – and got smoked, 23-3. The ones behind him not so much as the Vikings try to build on an erratic but at times promising 2014 behind Bridgewater and first-year coach Mike Zimmer.
Mike Kafka threw a touchdown pass for the Vikings and Joe Banyard ran for their other score in a game that saw very few reps for likely starters on either team.
Whether the kicker should be engaging in tackles during the preseason is up for debate, and Tomlin said he didn’t see it and wouldn’t speculate on Suisham’s effort to go for the ball carrier.
The Bus pulled into football immortality on Saturday night amid a sea of “Terrible Towels” that gave the Pro Football Hall of Fame a decidedly western Pennsylvania feel. Diggs fair caught his first punt return and knew immediately he shouldn’t have since no one was near him, but he more than made up for it with the exciting 62-yard return. The big names largely sat, leaving backups and camp hopefuls to do most of the heavy lifting. So says Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.
The 34-year-old Suisham had been a model of consistency for the Steelers the last five seasons, connecting on 124 of 141 field goal attempts (87.9%) since his arrival in Pittsburgh in 2010. The leading passer in Oklahoma history is trying to convince the team to keep three quarterbacks on the roster.
Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin told reporters he thought the former Leroy High School star was doing that. Two years ago there was only one, when the Cardinals flew to Green Bay, but it didn’t seem to matter as Arizona rolled, 17-0.
“That’s me, too”, Jones said. “We’re going to evaluate him. He’s got room for improvement”. Bridgewater is coming off a productive rookie campaign in which he completed 64.4 percent of his passes and tossed 14 touchdowns while throwing 12 interceptions. That means we are officially entering a “game week” tomorrow! “And he goes out there and he fair catches it”.

The Steelers struck first with a field goal from Shaun Suisham in the second quarter. We’ll have more tomorrow.
Rookie wide receiver Stefon Diggs had the highlight of the game in the third quarter, when he returned a punt 62 yards and came oh-so-close to scoring a touchdown.
