Mourinho signs new Chelsea contract

Mourinho, 52, led Chelsea to the Premier League title last season as well the Capital One Cup, earming Premier League Manager of the Year honors.

Although Wenger was in a positive mood ahead of the new campaign, he took a swipe at the decision to start this season’s Premier League one week earlier.

“We won the FA Cup last year, we finished third in the league so our target is very high – we want to win the Premier League“.

Mourinho, who has signed a four-year contract with the club, hopes his players reward him for loyalty.

The Blues are the champions and won the title at a canter last season, but Wenger has urged his players not to let the west Londoners get away from them this time around. “He is okay, happy, he is very happy and with the reaction with his body after such a hard game”.

“What we did was more about the message I wanted for my team”.

“Since his arrival two years ago he has carefully developed the playing squad and brought trophies to Stamford Bridge“.

Mourinho was not keen on allowing the 33-year-old Cech to join London rivals Arsenal after 11 successful years with the champions, but the manager insists he is happy with the goalkeeping options at his disposal.

After Mourinho’s temper cooled, it was clear as he addressed reporters that the Portuguese was not overly impressed with some of the calls made by referee Michael Oliver, particularly the Courtois sending off and the penalty given to Swansea for the keeper’s edge-of-the-box foul on Bafetimbi Gomis.

“Of course there were periods when we had to defend well, but you’d expect that at a place like this against a really good team”.

“This is the most important thing – to give us what we deserve”.

“Of course he is a top striker, so I can’t say I don’t need him but I don’t want to talk about injured players”. Not just for the goals he scores, but the football he produces.

“You can have a good season and somebody was better than you. You will never hear anything bad from me about them”. “No, it’s just because (it’s) the first time I can control myself!” he said. You don’t need to buy 10 players to be a better team.
