Newcomers bring NWA to life in ‘Straight Outta Compton’

Hollywood legend Oprah Winfrey can’t praise Ice Cube‘s new film Straight Outta Compton enough.

Dailymail.com reports that during Eminem’s verse on the song Medicine Man, he raps, “Ain’t no one safe from, non-believers there ain’t none, I even make b–es I rape c-“.

Jackson, Jr. also discussed how it felt to wrap his dad’s words, saying that it was “cool to finally be on the other side. My responsibility is to the film first and it’s just pretty much a coincidence that it’s all happening at the same time”.

“Its been a lifelong wish, especially after I started to produce movies…to bring this story to the big screen, ” Ice Cube (real name OShea Jackson) said during a Q&A after a screening of the movie late last month at the Emagine Royal Oak theater.

Director Gray — whose credits also include “Set It Off, ” “The Italian Job” and “Be Cool” — calls “Straight Outta Compton” “the most important film of my career and… the best film Ive done to this point, ” adding, “I was honored to just be able to tell their story.”.

Ice Cube apparently made sure his son wouldn’t get special treatment during the audition and filming, admitting he knew people would assume his son was just given the job. “To be honest, acting was something where I got a chance to be somebody else and forget about the situation I was in”, he says.

Ice Cube: We first took him on tour, me and my wife, when he was 11/2.

‘To have been looking at his movements and then getting them down. So he has a knack for the stage.

“It was constantly me and him trying to push it into their heads”. So to see him do this on the big screen, it was great. “He had heart and street credibility, and I knew when he performed that scene, he tapped into his experience on the street”, F. Gary said.

“While it’s a dream come true I realize the pressure”. For two years I was going to acting classes, learning techniques, going to auditions, callbacks, and things like that. I just feel like I got a whole lot of living to do before I think about summing it up in a book.

Filmed with the cooperation of surviving N.W.A. members, “Straight Outta Compton” strives to rehabilitate the image of Eazy-E, the initial frontman who fell out over financial disputes.
