Jets QB Smith Out 6-10 After Getting Punched
New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith (7) throws a pass during practice at NFL football training camp, Tuesday, August 4, 2015, in Florham Park, N.J.
Enemkpali has been released by the New York Jets with head coach Todd Bowles calling the skirmish childish.
Enemkpali was a sixth-round pick in 2014 and was a reserve linebacker. “It’s something we can’t stand. You don’t walk up to another man and punch him in the face”, said Bowles. He got cold-cocked, sucker-punched, whatever you want to call it, in the jaw. He has a broken jaw, fractured jaw, requires some surgery.
“As of now, we haven’t heard anything”, Treiber said.
Smith, who was recently named the worst of the 32 projected starting quarterbacks by an ESPN poll of coaches and team executives, will now be replaced by veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Internet was pretty quick to rush to the conclusion that Enemkpali had done the Jets a favor.
Bowles wouldn’t go into detail about the nature of the altercation, except to say: “It was something very childish, that sixth-graders could have talked about”.
Meanwhile, the Jets are in need of another quarterback.
The charge was later reduced to simple battery and Enemkpali received 13 months of probation and 32 hours of community service. Richardson could face additional discipline by the league for violation of the personal conduct policy once the legal process plays out.
Bowles addressed the media after the altercation, and mentioned that it’s not something that can be allowed in any locker room. His best year as a pass rusher came in 2012 when he notched six sacks to earn first-team All-Western Athletic Conference honors.
He added, “It’s something you don’t tolerate”. Smith was one our candidates to improve this season as a starter, largely because of how well he fits in offensive coordinator Chan Gailey’s system.
Enemkpali played 40 snaps as a rookie.
