Stroman throws off mound for first time since injury
You remember the months of watching Jayson Nix and Edwin Encarnacion and John McDonald at third base while Lawrie was being polished down in Las Vegas.
Former Blue Jays catcher Mr. Whitt said a packed crowd at a ball game was motivating. “What the front office has done by adding those pieces – I think they’ve given themselves a really good chance at winning it this year”.
“I’ve learned what I need to do … to be able to stay on the field and help the ballclub”, he said. “One thing Brett did, Brett got after it every night, played hard, never let up”. An 11-1 run has Toronto within 1 ½ games of the Bronx Bombers.
While the A’s are in the midst of a down year – sitting last in the American League West with a 51-62 record coming into Tuesday’s game – Lawrie is enjoying a productive season, batting.
Asked about it afterward, Gibbons said: “Good question”. “I’ve had the opportunity to meet some new guys, build some new relationships”.
That his arm feels good is not an indication of the health of his knee, but given that the Blue Jays initially ruled him out for the entire season, it’s impressive that Stroman’s throwing at all. It is certainly not fun to look at the standings and see that the Yankees lead has diminished, but some people have already hit the panic button and declared the season over, which is a bit premature. “We’ve won a couple of games [since his arrival], and we’ll leave him there [cleanup] for the time being”.
Traded from Toronto to the Oakland Athletics for MVP candidate Josh Donaldson in the off-season, Lawrie is back in the Canadian city for a three-game series against his former squad. That’s a span of 2,655 games without being shutout in consecutive outings. According to Google Trends, the number of Google searches for the term “Blue Jays” has spiked dramatically in several provinces since the trades for shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and ace pitcher David Price. Now Luis Severino is in the rotation, and he had a great debut against Boston last week, striking out seven batters and allowing just one earned run through five innings. Since the trade deadline, the rotation has held a 1.92 ERA.
