Jets quarterback Geno Smith out with broken jaw after getting sucker punched
Head coach Todd Bowles told reporters the altercation “had nothing to do with football”. “He has a broken jaw, fractured jaw, it requires some surgery”. He made an impression on the Jets, who drafted the undersized pass-rusher in the sixth round.
“It was something very childish that sixth-graders could’ve talked about”.
A Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s deputy who had responded to a 911 call about the incident said he saw Enemkpali, still struggling from the pepper spray, take another shot at the moonlighting office, this time hitting him in the face.
Also, Jet’s fans might find some consolation in the fact that the New England Patriots starting quarterback may well be out for the early part of the season.
The New York Jets suffered a major loss on Tuesday afternoon as it is being reported that Geno Smith has broken his jaw in a locker room altercation.
“The team knows it’s something we don’t tolerate”, Bowles said. Some let their misdeeds define them. “A uniformed officer arrived on the scene and used pepper spray on him, but that didn’t subdue him,” ESPN’s Rich Cimini wrote past year.
Bowles said he was not aware of a festering issue between Smith and Enemkpali before the incident.
“Well, this is a first for me”, said center Nick Mangold, entering his 10th season. Louisiana Tech was the only NCAA program to offer Enemkpali a scholarship, according to Kane McGuire of the school’s official athletics website. He will be gone for the start of the Jets season.
But Enemkpali is out the $510,000 he was due for this season, along with $1.3 million he was due in base salary over the next two seasons. He invited Geno to attend – even put his face on the flyer – but for some reason Geno didn’t make it. If Fitzpatrick is playing really well, then Smith’s NFL career could very well be over.
