Marlins place Fernandez on DL; ace confident of return
As expected the Marlins have placed right-hander Jose Fernandez on the disabled list with a strained biceps muscle.
Rodriguez has notched three straight solid starts since his seven-run, 1.2-inning implosion vs. the Los Angeles Angels, giving up six runs over 19 innings. He didn’t pitch until July while recovering from right elbow reconstruction surgery that was performed in May 2014. For game one against the Red Sox the Marlins start Justin Nicolino who has allowed 10 hits and five runs while striking out four over 11 innings for a 1-1 record and a 4.09 ERA.
Starting pitching has been an issue with the Miami Marlins for much of the 2015 season, a major reason the team has not been a playoff contender this season. We’ll let the doctors and trainers, along with Jose, determine [when he can return].
“It’s trying to teach me a lesson right now, ‘he said. That’s how I take my life”.
The Red Sox will open up a two-game set with the Marlins for the second time this season when they take the field Tuesday in Miami.
The Marlins have had an abysmal season – they have the worst record in baseball – and Jennings’ lack of experience as a manager could have something to do with it. Jennings had never managed a team beyond the high school level before the 2015. “I think there’s peace of mind knowing it’s not anything more than tendinitis in that bicep tendon”. “It’s taken some time for him to get his feet on the ground here, but today is a glimpse of what that potentially could be”.
Dan Jennings has not had a successful stint as the Marlins’ manager, but he didn’t have much to work with.
Stanton hasn’t played since June 26 and still not only leads the Marlins by a wide margin with 27 home runs and 67 RBIs, but he still ranks among the NL leaders in both categories.
