Bour delivers walk-off win for Marlins
Red Sox 2, Marlins 0. (2-for-4, two runs) helped the Red Sox build a 4-0 lead but the Miami Marlins chipped away at the deficit throughout and eventually won 5-4 here in 10 innings at Marlin Park on Tuesday in the first game of a two-game set.
Asked about his most recent display of catches, the always-confident Bradley smiled and said, “None of them was hard”.
“It was a situation to get a double play”. Rodriguez has a 1-1 record and 2.84 ERA in his last three starts. Betts is hitting.270/.320/.443 with 10 home runs, 50 RBI, and 14 stolen bases this year. He grounded out to Wright and the bases were left juiced. Bradley Jr. singled to right. Bradley is one of the elite defensive outfielders in the game, but manager John Farrell is inclined to keep Betts in center. JBJ soared into third with his second triple in as many at-bats. Derek Dietrich and Bour each singled and Gillespie walked.
1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on. Jackie’s the only one of the three who has played left field so in fairness to all, it’s the repetitions previously that Jackie’s had in left, that’s why he’s there. Betts doubled to left, Bradley Jr. scored. A deflected single off the glove of Bour turned into a run after third baseman Martin Prado ole’d Betts’ smash for a charitable double. But he started the sixth inning and quickly ran into trouble.
Red Sox sixth. Bogaerts singled to right. Bogaerts then scored on a wild pitch by Nicolino, and, after third baseman Pablo Sandoval and catcher Blake Swihart recorded consecutive flyouts, right fielder Rusney Castillo lifted a triple to deep right, scoring Ortiz and pushing the lead to a seemingly insurmountable 4-0. This ended Nicolino’s evening.
Realmuto doubled to left field and Suzuki walked. He didn’t give up a run when he was in the ballgame, but did not escape unscathed. Red Sox 4, Marlins 3. He would score on a Casey McGehee groundout to make it 4-1 Sox. Dee Gordon scored the run on the single. Both runs were charged to Wright.
Ryan Cook has also joined the Red Sox.
“Each pitcher, one out at a time”, said Mike Dunn, who contributed in the bullpen’s flawless outing. This spelled the end of his very short night, and Alexi Ogando replaced him. Boston center fielder Mookie Betts (concussion) was activated off the disabled list after missing 11 games…. Hechavarria struck out.
Boston reliever Jean Machi pitched the eighth for Boston.
Bench coach Torey Lovullo managed the game in place of Farrell, who believes he got the hernia when he carried a heavy equipment bag on Thursday. Dietrich walked. Bour walked, Dietrich to second. Junichi Tazawa blew the save chance. He is clearly gassed from too many innings and he blew yet another one. On Tazawa’s wild pitch, Realmuto to third, I.Suzuki to second. The odds of the speedster not scoring with no outs on third were very low. He scored on a walkoff single by Justin Bour.
Another brutal loss for a brutal bullpen.
Farrell, who had hernia surgery in Detroit on Monday, arrived at Marlins Park two hours before first pitch and was accompanied by Red Sox medical director Dr. Larry Ronan.
2 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on.
The Miami Marlins stranded 16 runners Tuesday night.
-Betts, Bogaerts and JBJ had a combined 7 hits. “I saw him flat ground and it looked good”.
-Hanley Ramirez missed the game with a sore foot.
