Kids killed in shooting had been taken from home by state
Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson told reporters Monday after a court hearing that authorities were alerted of problems at the home by the mother of victim Valerie Jackson.
HOUSTON (AP) – Six children who were fatally shot in their Houston home along with their mother and her husband were temporarily removed by Child Protective Services from the household in 2013 after allegations of domestic violence and a lack of supervision.
Sadly by then, it was too late.
A man with a violent criminal history entered a Houston home through an unlocked window and fatally shot a woman he’d previously dated, her husband and six children, including a boy believed to be his own son, authorities said.
Neighbor and friend Kathy Sysongkim was in disbelief, according to KHOU. “Did you kill my sister?” “Why? They didn’t do anything”. They were good kids.
Valerie had two active Facebook pages, one listed as Valerie Conley, the other Valerie Jackson. “It’s bad”.
The request from Valerie Jackson’s mother on Saturday sent deputies to the home in northwestern Houston.
Conley, 48, who has been charged with capital murder, stood handcuffed, shackled and wearing a yellow jumpsuit during his first court appearance on Monday. “And it’s, it’s hard”.
Estella Olguin, a spokeswoman for Child Protective Services, said her agency had been involved with the family, but she declined to offer more details. He served time in jail for the second charge.
Conley told police he went to the family’s home on Saturday and found the locks had been changed after he moved out.
A Chicago native was among the eight family members murdered in Texas on Saturday.
Conley pushed Valerie Jackson’s head against a refrigerator multiple times after she tried to stop him from disciplining her son with a belt, the documents alleged.
When police got there, they say a person inside fired several gun shots. We love you David Ray Conley III!”We do not – cannot – fully comprehend the motivation of an individual that would take the lives of so many innocent people”.
The parents attending practice for the North Harris County Bengals, the pee wee team for which Nathaniel Jackson played, say they’ve never seen anything like it before in their lives.
“The killer’s motives appear to be related to a dispute with Valerie, who was his former domestic partner”.
Carlos Sanchez, who lived across the street from the family, recalls once finding the oldest child, 13-year-old Nathaniel, after dark on a street in their neighborhood.
Nathaniel’s friend, Romello Broussard, gives perhaps the most chilling testimony that hints at troubles inside the Jackson home. Scene where 6 children and 2 adults were found dead ” All ladies, any little thing I do, they want to call the police on me”, he said.
