Uggie the Dog passes away
Everyone knows that Uggie the dog was the main star of the hit silent movie The Artist so it is with a heavy heart that we report that the lovable trick performing pooch has passed away at the age of 13.
TMZ has learned the 13-year-old star who played “The Dog” in the 2012 Oscar winning film was put down Friday in Los Angeles.
Owner Omar Von Muller, who rescued Uggie from being sent to the dog pound, said the decision to end Uggie’s suffering was “difficult”, particularly during the last few weeks of his life. Fix It, Water for Elephants and The Campaign.
A second trainer, Sarah Clifford, described Uggie as “a ideal little terrier” and added: “I will forever hold him dearly in my heart and never forget his infinite love for chicken and hotdogs”.
His first named role as Queenie helped him win the part in multi-award winning movie, The Artist.
“I’m a big fan of England, English theatre, Shakespeare and all those guys”, Uggie told film writer Xan Brooks.
He also penned a memoir, Uggie, the Artist: My Story, spilling the beans on his encounters with fellow celebrities and “enduring crush” on Reese Witherspoon, “finally sealed with a kiss at the White House correspondents’ dinner”.
