Harvey dominant, Mets stay on roll with 4-0 win over Rockies
Michael Cuddyer #23 of the New York Mets celebrates with teammates in the dugout after he scored on a bases loaded walk in the eighth inning against the Colorado Rockies on August 11, 2015 at Citi Field in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City.
The Colorado Rockies are facing a four-game stretch against the New York Mets-four games in four days-and it’s one of the biggest tests of the season. It was his sixth career shutout and second this season.
Knowing he is on a rough innings limit in his first season since having Tommy John surgery, the Dark Knight has adjusted his mindset some.
Harvey missed all of 2014 recovering from the operation and has been a slightly different pitcher this season. “Threw a lot of changeups”.
David Wright watched from Florida as Daniel Murphy drove in two runs with a tiebreaking single in the seventh inning, and the Mets rallied for a 4-2 victory over Colorado on Monday night after top Rockies pitching prospect Jon Gray was lifted after six innings. Rookie Kevin Plawecki was sent down so he can get more playing time. “Pretty easy when you need to throw strikes and they are making plays like that”.
LHP Chris Rusin will look to snap out of a three-start slump Tuesday night when he takes the mound for the Rockies in the opener of a three-game series against the Mets at Citi Field.
His fastball topped out at 98 miles per hour. “It’s got some great movement That’s why he’s getting the ground balls he’s getting”.
“The big picture is going through September into October”, Harvey said. At least publicly, the famously competitive Harvey said he didn’t mind getting the hook.
Now that d’Arnaud is ready to handle full-time catching duties, the Mets recalled Anthony Recker from Triple-A Las Vegas after the game.
Shoemaker hadn’t allowed a run in his last three starts, but was tagged for seven and nine hits in 5 2-3 innings as Los Angeles dropped its seventh straight on the road.
“It’s possible”, Weiss said.
With the Mets (61-52) leading, 1-0, in the seventh Harvey yielded a one-out double to Ben Paulsen but LeMahieu lined into an inning-ending double play. “We really didn’t have too many opportunities in general tonight”.
Spencer Patton (1-1) quickly got the first two outs in the ninth, but he walked Kurt Suzuki before reaching the bottom of the order with Escobar, who grounded a full-count fastball down the right-field line.
Charlie Blackmon’s homer in the first, the 10th leadoff blast of his career, made it 2-1, and Hundley hit a two-run shot to tie it at 3 in the fourth. Castillo has eight home runs and 14 RBIs in his last 12 games.
NOTES: The game started on time at 7:11 despite intermittent day-long rains…. Miller was pulled for left-hander Boone Logan, who plunked right fielder Curtis Granderson with a 3-2 pitch to force home d’Arnaud with the tying run.
They had another chance to take the lead in the third with consecutive one-out singles by Lagares and Murphy before Cespedes struck out and Uribe popped out again to keep the game scoreless.
