Skype for Business preview lands on iOS and Android
The company is a longtime partner of Microsoft, where CEO and founder Sonu Aggarwal once worked on the product roadmap and development for Live Communications Server and Office Communications Server – projects that would precede Lync, or what is now known as Skype for Business.
The goal is to help Microsoft better compete in a modern “mobile-first, cloud-first” world by broadening its user base. Microsoft’s Cortana has launched on Android.
Now we’re seeing the pattern continue with Microsoft’s new Skype for Business platform. Alternatively, you can just find out more information on what Skype for Business is, by hitting the source link below.
In terms of features, Microsoft’s business-focused Skype app will show contacts, recent conversations and upcoming meetings all on your dashboard, as opposed to the default recent conversations view on the general Skype app for iOS and Android. Microsoft today rolled out a preview version of the service on iOS and Android smartphones.
In addition, the calling feature comes with larger buttons for muting, adding participants and managing the users calls. Corporate IT managers can sign to eight employees (four for iOS, four for Android) up for the preview at www.skypepreview.com before August 17th.
Skype for Business, through the new apps, features a dashboard for navigation of contacts, calls and meetings, and an updated In-Call and In-Meeting experience. To be in the first group of testers for the apps, administrators will have to apply before Friday, August 14 (US time).
Customers running Lync 2013 on iOS and Android will receive an updated Skype for Business app later this year.
