Giants focus on backup quarterback competition vs. Bengals
Vast receiver Victor Cruz has definitely come a great distance within the final 10 months.
As we mentioned back in June we mentioned that the New York Giants will be coming into Cincinnati for a joint practice with the Bengals before their Friday night match.
New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham (13) takes a break on…
For the Giants, their training camp scuffles have been a bit more pronounced than in recent years.
A year ago, it was an early start and a five-game preseason that kicked off with the Hall of Fame game against the Buffalo Bills. It’ll be of note to see if he’s ready to practice on Tuesday against the Giants.
“I do know I am not going to do something towards Cincinnati, all through practices or something like that”.
“I thought (we) had good intensity on both sides of the ball, but everybody just kind of played to the whistle”, quarterback Eli Manning said.
“He seemed to be good”, Manning said.
“It’s different from a game when you go in and you game plan and you have looks”, Manning said.
The concern, of course, is players getting too worked up.
The last time the Giants held a joint workout was with the Jets in 2005, and that also featured fights.
CB Prince Amukamara (groin) did not participate and likely won’t be available until next week, but he took it as a compliment that Tom Coughlin brought him along with the rest of the team. “Marvin and I have already talked about that, last spring. We want good, solid work, but we don’t want any of that”. All the players were trying to prove a point in practice, adding that in training camp players tend to ease up against teammates. Cincinnati is a chippy group, which is why we’re going up against them. “Who is starting?” At the end of the day, there weren’t many surprises; rookies were at the bottom of the depth chart and injured players in Marvin Lewis’ dog house went from starter to backup.
Cruz, who said he probably will not wear a protective brace on his knee when he does return to games, concluded by saying that when he puts on the film of himself from these practices, he likes what he’s seeing.
“I might love some sort of tune-up work, and sort of going on the market and feeling what recreation velocity looks like once more and get hit actual velocity once more so it will not be a lot of a shock come Week 1, however like I stated, I am going to depart it as much as the teaching employees and the coaching employees”, he stated.
It went as the two coaches had expected. I just got a cortisone shot yesterday, so I think the doctor said the smartest thing is to not do anything for a couple of days. If they take it up to another level, then you just go with the flow. Follow your rules and your assignments, make sure you can do it, and make adjustments.
