Jose Mourinho signs new four-year Chelsea contract
Chelsea begin their Barclays Premier League title defence on Saturday with Jose Mourinho committed for four more years and aware of the dangers of standing still.
Mourinho first took over at Chelsea back in 2004 and stayed until 2007, during which time he collected two Premier League titles, two League Cup’s and one FA Cup.
The Portuguese’s new contract will keep the 52-year-old at the club until 2019 and Mourinho spoke of his happiness at signing a new deal with the west London side.
“I am proud to manage Manchester City FC and am therefore very pleased to have agreed this contract”, he said.
“This is the most important thing: for them to give us what I think we deserve”.
“When a manager is on holidays and even in holidays still thinks about me and speaks about me, I have nothing to say”, according to The Guardian.
Asked what would constitute success this term, Mourinho said: “I really don’t know, because it depends not just about you, it’s also about the others”.
“Let’s try to be a good team and be here in March-April speaking about winning something“.
Mourinho said: “We brought Falcao because we know that we need three”.
“I can not say I don’t need him“.
“We are delighted to reach this agreement with Manuel Pellegrini who has already contributed so much to the development of Manchester City in his first two years with us and we look forward to further progress in the seasons ahead”, chief executive officer Ferran Soriano said.
The Gunners host West Ham United on Sunday in their opening Premier League fixture with the Community Shield already in their trophy cabinet following last weekend’s 1-0 win over Chelsea.
The former Real Madrid manager has been disgruntled in the past by the fixture scheduling, and has also been a long-time critic of the Premier League’s refusal to re-schedule fixtures to help its top teams in the UEFA Champions League.
Every successful team is built on a firm foundation and Cech is about as solid as you can get. My opinion is the team that defends very well, that leaves their philosophy in the dressing room, changes their attitude, plays all the second half with nine players in front of the box, doesn’t concede and scores one goal, from that perspective they deserve to win.
