Netflix Expands Original Movie Slate With Christopher Guest’s ‘Mascots’
Over the past few years, Netflix has done a great job of establishing itself as a purveyor of quality television.
Guest is know for pioneering the “mockumentary” format of faux-documentary films through “This is Spinal Tap” (rock “n” roll), “Best in Show” (dog shows), “Waiting for Guffman” (community theater) and “A Mighty Wind” (folk music).
The streaming giant has acquired Mascots, a new original film from Christopher Guest.
When it comes to mockumentaries, perhaps no name is as big as Guest.
Netflix announced Mascots, due out in 2016, on Twitter. The film will take audiences into the 8th World Mascot Association Championships, where men and women compete to win the prestigious Gold Fluffy Award.
There’s no word on casting for Mascots, or whether long-time collaborators like Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara and Parker Posey are on board.
Netflix has been ramping up its feature film slate.
First Adam Sandler, then Brad Pitt and now …
Christopher Guest joins the Netflix army.
