Lavonte David signs five-year Tampa Bay Buccaneers extension
According to reports, the new deal will include $25 million in guaranteed money.
David is equally confident, saying his nature and love of football should allow him to avoid the trap that professional athletes sometimes fall into when their attempts to justify a mega-million-dollar deal result in little more than struggles and disappointment. We want to bring a winning mindset back to this organization. “We have the guys to do it. We have the coaches to help us. Hopefully it happens very soon, but the sky is the limit for us, the way things have been looking”.
David, entering his fourth season, was a second-round draft choice in 2012. Last year Clinton McDonald signed with the Bucs and started 13 games, finishing with five sacks and a career-high 45 tackles.
His deal trumps Levy’s four-year, $33.72 pact, which makes David the highest-paid 4-3 linebacker in the game.

Smith was an assistant with the Bucs early in the careers of Hall of Famers Derrick Brooks and Warren Sapp. McDaniel will have to compete with Da’Quan Bowers for a roster spot behind Gerald McCoy, Clinton McDonald and Henry Melton. I mean, Lavonte David is as good as there is.
“Lavonte, he can do it all“, Smith said. Since a dominant 4-3 OLB is a rare commodity in the NFL these days, there weren’t many contracts to look at and try to predict what David’s new deal might be. “I just wish we played them, so I could really show them”.
Smith said he considers himself “blessed” to have inherited David and McCoy when taking over as coach. “There are a lot of things technically that I need to clean up”, Marpet said.
