Minority Report, Lucifer TV shows leak months before their air date
While movies often appear online during their theatrical windows and TV shows shortly after their network debut, leaks in advance of these events are rather more uncommon.
The pilot to the brand new Fox collection “Lucifer” has leaked, providing a extra in depth glimpse into the collection extensively criticized for glorifying Devil.
Variety reports by noon ET Monday, just ten hours later, “Lucifer” had been downloaded or accessed by 141,498 separate worldwide torrent clients, while the pilot for “Minority Report” had been hit 111,269 times and “Blindspot” had 81,887 hits.
There are a few links between the shows too, which might factor into how they all leaked at once. As can be seen by the screenshots, presentation is good with no visible watermarks. Lucifer, incredibly loosely based on the Vertigo comic series, follows the First Fallen (played by Brit actor Tom Ellis) after he gets bored of his role as lord of Hell and quits the job to open a piano bar in Los Angeles… and help a detective solve crimes. Such was the case for CBS’s Supergirl series, the pilot for which made its way online back in May.
The source of the leak is now unknown but the pilot was screened exactly a month ago at the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con where according to Fox it was well received. In 2011 he admitted that in some instances piracy had boosted his book sales by 300%. Starring Jaimie Alexander and Sullivan Stapleton, the series was ordered by NBC on May 1 and will be aired on from September 21.
“Minority Report” is co-produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Paramount Television; “Lucifer” and “Blindspot” are from Warner Bros. Judging by Deadline’s report and in particular its contextual choices, the pre-release buzz surrounding pilots is little to do with specific reviews, but more to gauge what type of viewership (downloads) a new show is likely to have.
