Elvis Presley lands second stamp honor
The new Elvis Presley Forever stamp was unveiled this morning during a first-day-of-issue ceremony held on the front lawn of the late King of Rock “n” Roll’s Graceland estate in Memphis.
Just in time for Elvis Week, the U.S. Postal Service released the Elvis Presley Forever stamp Wednesday.
ELVIS is “Forever” is a sentiment that has won the stamp of approval from the US postal service.
On Thursday, the Presley stamp goes on sale in Tupelo, Mississippi, with a dedication ceremony at the Elvis Presley Birthplace in Tupelo. Other icons honored in the past few years include Janis Joplin, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles and Jimmy Hendrix.
The new stamp features a 1955 photo of the musical legend taken by William Speer.
It also features a tiny crown for “The King”.
Each sheet was designed to resemble a vintage 45 rpm record sleeve, according to a statement from the USPS.
An image of Presley performing was shot by photographer Alfred Wertheimer and the logo for the Music Icons series appear on the reverse side (above) of the stamp pane. Presley’s signature, in gold ink, is printed along the right side of the stamp. Visit this link for more information.
