Angelina Jolie to produce Irish animation
Jolie-Pitt and husband Pitt seemed to be really in their character as a lonely couple in a vacation by the sea. A version of the movie is to be produced in the English-language as well as in Dari.
Speaking about The Breadwinner, Angelina Jolie-Pitt said: Millions of young girls like Parvana are growing up today under oppression or conflict, and helping their families to survive in those conditions. It’s now casting and in pre-production in advance of an August production start and due for completion in early 2017.
The film is based on Deborah Ellis’ acclaimed young adult novel of the same name.
The Breadwinner will be directed by Irish filmmaker and animator Nora Twomey, who was nominated for an Oscar for her animated feature film The Secret of Kells.
The “By The Sea” actress said in the statement that she is delighted to be working with artists who are talented enough to do justice to Parvan’s story while portraying the rich culture of the Afghan landscape.
“We kept joking that all of the crew felt like they were living in a house where the parents were fighting and you don’t know where to stand or where to look”, she added.
The Maleficent star will donate any profits derived from her role as executive producer towards the education of Afghan girls.
Moore and Cartoon Saloon co-founder and CEO Paul Young are co-producing The Breadwinner alongside Aircraft’s Anthony Leo and Andrew Rosen and Melusine’s Stephan Roelants, in conjunction with executive producers Jehane Noujaim & Karim Amer. Cartoon Saloon’s Gerry Shirren will also serve as executive producer.
