Linebacker from Pflugerville breaks jaw of New York Jets QB
Smith will be sidelined 6-10 weeks after being “sucker punched” by linebacker I.K. Enemkpali in what is being described as a “locker room altercation”.
Also, NFL.com reports that Smith pointed his finger in Enemkpali’s face right before the punch was thrown.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Enemkpali believed Smith owed him the money after he originally bought the quarterback a ticket to attend his July 11 football camp in Pflugerville, Texas. Enemkpali confronted Smith on Tuesday about the money, and the confrontation ended in a punch and a broken jaw.
So what kept Geno from paying up?
Bowles made the stunning announcement in an impromptu news conference before training camp practice was scheduled to start.
Bowles said he was not aware of any animosity between the pair before the altercation.
Later Smith posted a closed-mouthed photo on Instagram with the caption “I’ll be back”.
Ryan Fitzpatrick has since taken over quarterbacking responsibilities for the Jets. Many fans for several seasons in turn claimed that Smith has not even played to the caliber of a later round draft pick. “It’s something we can’t stand. And you don’t walk up to another man and punch him in the face”.
Enemkpali apologized after being released, saying he and Smith “let our frustration get the best of us”.
He added, “It’s something you don’t tolerate”.
“I have no regrets of things that I’ve done”, Newton said. He played in all 13 games last season, only winning three of those games.
The 6-foot-1, 261-pound Enemkpali was arrested in April 2011 for disturbing the peace and battery of a police officer after an off-campus incident in Ruston, Louisiana, the Austin American-Statesman reported in May 2014. No one will talk about what exactly happened inside the Jets locker room, but it makes everyone question the maturity of Jets quarterback Geno Smith yet again.
