Woman feared dead after Beijing slashing
A man armed with a sword stabbed a woman in Beijing’s busy Sanlitun district this afternoon.
The victims were rushed to a hospital, where the woman died, the microblog said, without giving details about the man’s condition.
The 25-year-old suspect killed the woman and injured a French man “for no reason”, according to the Beijing police. The victim has sustained a serious chest wound and is covered in blood but appears to still be breathing.
A woman was on Thursday (Aug 13) slashed to death in Beijing in what was said to be a dispute between street peddlers.
The offical Weibo accout of the Beijing police also confirmed the incident and said the stabber wounded both a woman and a Frenchman. Her husband, who is French, was being treated for injuries in hospital.
The Legal Evening News reported that many people fled when they saw the assailant walking towards them, wielding a long knife.
Another video posted online shows the moment the attacker was apprehended. The area is close to the Venezuelan embassy, Unicef’s local headquarters and the Opposite House, one of the Chinese capital’s best-known boutique hotels.
The woman victim has also been identified as a foreigner, although her nationality has not been revealed.
The statement says that the attacker, whose surname is Gao, is 25 years and from Tonghua in Jilin Province.
