Dr. Dre Says ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Gave Him ‘Goosebumps’
A meme generator designed to promote the upcoming Straight Outta Compton movie went viral on Twitter this week, spawning the hashtag #StraightOutta as Twitter users joked around with their own N.W.A.-themed art overlaid with a customizable “Straight outta _” label.
We (were) sick of these people telling us what to do, Ice Cube said.
The remarks have been edited for clarity and brevity. Moments of the film that feel like checking off boxes-a confrontational press conference; a series of diss tracks swapped among the fracturing members of the group-are enlivened by the cast; even when the story seems to slow down, more time spent with them is worth it.
He added: “During filming it really took me back and brought back a lot of memories, especially when Eazy died”.
I wasn’t interested necessarily in keeping everybody happy, because this is the world’s most unsafe group.
AP: Kids often think their parents are dorky in some way. No pun intended: Ice Cube’s the coolest dad. “It’s not gonna be the same, you know?” It’s a hard-as-nails, Schooly D-styled boom-bapper; Cube delivers his verses in near-screams.
The meme is pretty lighthearted for a movie based on one of the most feared musical groups of the past 50 years, but isn’t that just 2015 Internet. It also examines the influential solo careers that Ice Cube and Dr. Dre forged for themselves, as well as the uneasy and ultimately broken alliance with manager Jerry Heller played by Paul Giamatti, fresh off another ambiguously villainous role as Dr. Eugene Landy in the Brian Wilson biopic Love & Mercy.. You see three or four black kids hanging out, they pull you over, jackin’ you, makin’ you get down on the ground. If somebody break in my house, I’m calling the damn police.
I need to create a login for digital access. Will co-star Armie Hammer hit the trifecta of tanking movies based on midcentury heroes (after his parts in the aborted Justice League: Mortal and the abortion The Lone Ranger)? I was about 18 years old when I started to realize the kind of impact he had. So he has a knack for the stage. “My man Corey is from Juilliard; he sees acting as the art”.
All of the relatively unknown stars at the center of the film are magnetic presences, and even brief cameos-Keith Stanfield as Snoop Dogg, Marcc Rose as Tupac Shakur-ring with surprising force.
AP: Ice Cube, would you ever write an autobiography? I could have just walked in and said “Hey listen I already know everything”. I didn’t want to teeter one way or the other.
“We heard they were out there, probably by someone else ditching class, and then word just got around the school”. Becoming a superstar in your 20s is fun, and though history tells us the bad news is coming, Gray-and cinematographer Matthew Libatique, who captures some epic party scenes-lets us in on the joy.
