Kevin Durant: (Foot) Fully Healthy At USA Minicamp
Team USA invited thirty-four players to mini-camp in Las Vegas with the goal of creating the best roster of athletes to represent the USA in next year’s Olympic Games in Rio.
Durant only played 27 games during the 2014-2015 season due to a fracture in his right foot.
However, neither will play in the intra-squad showcase game on Thursday, as they both continue to recover from injuries that ended their 2014-15 seasons early.
Fans of any sport salivate at the thought of everyone remaining healthy over the course of an entire season, but the harsh reality is that it’s highly unlikely.
Evidently, he’s learned his lesson, because he said nothing Tuesday to stoke the flames of speculation about whether he’ll leave the Thunder next summer for his hometown Wizards or parts unknown. Williams, along with numerous NBA’s best players and coaches, are now in Las Vegas for USA Basketball’s pre-2016 Olympics minicamp.
“I think we’re the best team in the National Basketball Association at this point”, Westbrook said.
Several players nursing injuries – including Cleveland’s Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, and Indiana’s Paul George – won’t be playing, though they are attending to demonstrate again their commitment to the program (George was at a Monday meeting before departing Tuesday).
In the camp, Anthony told reporters that being with Team USA gives him a chance to do something special as he has been part of the program since he was 18 years old. Like, back – like, ready to play back. “I’ll worry about (free agency) when I get there”.
The question going forward will be if there’s a tentativeness about Durant on the floor. “To bounce concepts off of Chris Paul, LaMarcus Aldridge, Draymond Inexperienced, Steph Curry, that is like heaven, like being in basketball heaven with these guys”. “Me, I always want to connect with guys and learn from guys and see what I can steal and put into my game”. “But I’m glad I went through that journey and it’s made me a stronger man”.
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook only has one mode: playing at 100 percent. He said all the right things about the Thunder (“I’m 100 percent committed”) and even had a smart answer ready when asked whether he would be OK if he replaced James this season, as the man most squarely in the NBA’s pressure cooker.
