Hillary Clinton to turn over personal email server
Asked how much they’d seen or heard about Clinton’s use of a personal email account, 61% said a lot, while just 24% said a little and 15% said nothing at all.
Federal investigators have begun looking into the security of Clintons’ email setup amid concerns from the inspector general for the intelligence community that classified information may have passed through the system. There is no evidence she used encryption to prevent prying eyes from accessing the emails or her personal server.
“Secretary Clinton’s previous statements that she possessed no classified information were patently untrue”, House Speaker John Boehner said in a statement. With the server in hand, the Federal Bureau of Investigation will now get a look at what Hillary erased and be able to show whether she has been lying about what was on the server and whether she sought to hide potentially damaging or criminal information. “This classified information should never have been transmitted via an unclassified personal system”.
That led to significant criticism from Republicans, specifically House Benghazi Committee chairman Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), who have called on Clinton to turn over her server to ensure that she didn’t delete any emails that should have been turned over.
Officials are investigating whether classified information was improperly sent, though it’s not clear if the device will yield any information.
All of Clinton’s emails are in the possession of her personal attorney, including the ones that require a security clearance to read, according to Fox News.
“The revelation that Secretary Clinton exclusively used private email for official public business, and the multitude of issues that emanated from her decision, including this most recent one, demonstrates what can happen when Congress and those equally committed to exposing the truth, doggedly pursue facts and follow them”, he said in a statement.
Clinton’s campaign believes there are no emails from her State Department tenure on the server, since it was wiped clean after she turned over her work-related emails to the State Department, the aide said. She submitted the affidavit as part of a lawsuit by the conservative group Judicial Watch, which is seeking State Department records.
Merril said in the meantime, Clinton’s team “has worked with the State Department to ensure her emails are stored in a safe and secure manner”.
Hillary Clinton will give up the personal email server she used while Secretary of State.
The State Department previously had said it was comfortable with Kendall keeping the emails at his Washington law office. The other two emails are still under review to determine how they should be classified.
McCullough said in the past that “none of the emails we reviewed had classification or dissemination markings”, but that some “should have been handled as classified, appropriately marked, and transmitted via a secure network”.
