Aston Villa back in for Tottenham winger Townsend
Aston Villa have re-ignited their interest in Tottenham winger Andros Townsend, according to the Daily Mirror.
Meanwhile, Townsend’s fellow winger Aaron Lennon is holding out for a move to Everton after being asked to train with Tottenham’s young players.
Sherwood worked with the England global in North London and is eager to reunite at Villa Park but may be put off by Spurs’ £15million valuation.
Spurs are reportedly willing to sell their academy product if an offer of at least £12 million arrives before the end of the transfer window.
And they have reiterated the fact they are not going to sell Harry Kane.
Townsend has summer 2013 addition Erik Lamela to contend with for the right-wing position, the Argentinian played 33 games in the league last season and racked up seven assists, the highest total at the club. He missed the opening day trip to Old Trafford with a shoulder injury and played no part in their preseason trips to the USA and Germany.
Townsend has suffered a frustrating couple of seasons after breaking into the first team and becoming a star for England. However, should he not get much playing time – which is expected to happen at Tottenham now – he may not make Hodgson’s Euro 2016 squad for the tournament in France next summer.
Too many wasteful crosses and off-target longshots have seen Townsend’s path to stardom halted.
Even though Townsend was rarely a first-choice under Pochettino last season, he retained the faith of England manager Roy Hodgson and scored a spectacular equaliser in the 1-1 draw with Italy in a friendly in March.
Townsend looks to be on the way out of White Hart Lane, with the Standard claiming that Spurs will listen to offers for him should they be in the region of £12 million.
