UK: Tesco Unleashes ‘Komodo Dragon’ Chilli Pepper
Measuring a scorching 1.4 million Scoville units – the Scoville scale is used to measure the heat of the fruit – the Komodo Dragon is far hotter than a jalapeno pepper, which is just 3,500 Scovilles.
The world’s hottest chilli pepper called the Komodo Dragon is now on sale in Tesco stores in the UK and here’s hoping it ends up in Irish stores soon because it looks like a hell of a lot of fun. “But they all pale in comparison with the UK’s latest commercially grown chilli pepper – the mighty Komodo Dragon – which puts the others in the shade”. First you get a hot fruity taste and ten seconds later you are hit with the full ferocity of the spice.
Tesco chilli pepper buyer Eleanor Mansell said: “The Komodo Dragon is also unusual because it has a delayed reaction that lulls you into a sense of false security”.
“This is definitely a chilli pepper for connoisseurs and for those who are experienced in eating really, superhot food”, said Mansell.
Go forth and torture your tastebuds.
We’re not actually joking. All submissions welcome…
The Komodo Dragon was grown in Bedfordshire by chilli-farmer Salvatore Genovese.
Salvatore started growing chilli peppers 15 years ago after he took over his parents’ cucumber business.
The fiery Komodo Dragon is so strong that it is being sold in tiny packs to reduce the alarming risk of “mouth burn” and even the spiciest food lovers are advised to handle it with great precaution, the Daily Star reported.
If that’s the case, Tesco are making some bold claims and have said that they’ve sourced the hottest chilli pepper ever to be grown.
