Jeep Cherokee Now Available with 2.2-litre MultiJet Diesel Engine
The new Jeep Cherokee has been given a new 2.2 litre Multijet diesel engine for 2015, offering much improved power, and better economy, compared to the old engine.
The 2.2-litre MultiJet Diesel engine is mated to Jeep’s nine-speed automatic transmission with Active-Drive I four-wheel-drive; the 200 hp can be specified with Active-Drive II.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has introduced a new diesel engine for the Euro-spec Jeep Cherokee. The less powerful variant is being offered in the Longitude and Longitude+ while the other one can only be had in the Limited specification, as the company is stating.
There’s no doubt the new diesel engine in the Cherokee makes it far more competitive, but the price of £37,995 for the 2.2 MultiJet II 200 hp Limited 4WD automatic makes it much the same price as the Land Rover Discovery Sport HSE SD4. Opting for the Active Drive II system, which adds low-range gearing and hill-descent control, can reach 62 miles per hour in 8.7 seconds. Both versions carry a towing capacity of 2.5 tonnes. We’re talking about an electric tailgate, windscreen wipers with rain sensor, dusk sensor, eight-position electrically adjustable seat, four-position lumbar adjustment and automatic anti-dazzle rear-view mirror with a built-in microphone.
The Cherokee range has extremely strong technological credentials with the award winning UConnect system, a class leading touchscreen and Sat Nav unit and market-first wireless charging pad, all standard on Limited. It also enables a zero to 62 miles per hour (100 km/h) sprint in 8.5 seconds when equipped with the nine-speed auto gearbox. Official economy is 49.6mpg and emissions are 150g/km. The Active Drive II variant is 0.2s slower and it has a 1 miles per hour lower top speed. The claimed fuel efficiency is 21.08kmpl.
The more powerful 200PS model in combination with 4×4 Jeep Active Drive I reaches a top speed of 127 miles per hour (204 km/h) and accelerates from zero to 62 miles per hour in 8.5 seconds.
