Bernie Sanders Just Pulled Ahead of Hillary In New Hampshire
Vice President Joe Biden, who has not announced a run for president, drew 9 percent of respondents’ support. The rest of the Democratic field – former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, former Virginia Sen.
The enthusiasm gap between Sanders and Clinton is striking: 54 percent of likely Democratic primary voters view Sanders “very” favorably, compared to just 36 percent for Clinton. It also shows her support dropping below 40 percent for the first time ever, after having being fairly stable since March.
“Bernie Sanders has basically become the liberal progressive alternative to Hillary Clinton”, University of New Hampshire Professor Dante Scala said.
Sanders ascendency has been dramatic – and not predicted.
The poll found that 44 percent of likely Democratic primary voters support Sanders, while 37 percent favor Clinton.
The survey was conducted August 7-10.
In March, in this same survey, she led Sanders in New Hampshire by 39 points.
Clinton has been the presumptive Democratic frontrunner since well before officially launching her candidacy in June. It’s a big deal in that it confirms what we already know in starker terms: Bernie Sanders could win New Hampshire, and possibly Iowa, as well, even if he is almost certain to lose nearly every other state to Clinton.
The poll continues a trend of Sanders closing what originally seemed an insurmountable deficit against Clinton in the Granite State.
The Black Lives Matter movement traveled to New Hampshire yesterday, but this time, their target wasn’t Bernie Sanders. Meanwhile, Clinton is facing more political challenges after the revelation Tuesday that top-secret information had been included in at least two e-mails sent over the private server she used as secretary of state.
Sanders, on the other hand, has been rocketing up the charts.
According to a post on the Facebook site Black Lives Matter Boston, the activists came to the Clinton event – a community forum on substance abuse – with the intention to “participate” and “hold her accountable”.
