Crystal Palace: Gayle move to Bristol City moves closer
Championship side Bristol City are hoping to sign Dwight Gayle from Crystal Palace after manager Steve Cotterill said the Premier League club have accepted their bid for the English forward.
Gayle was brought to the attention of Palace after he scored six goals for Peterborough United in the 2012/13 season, and the now 25-year-old has gone on to find the net ten times in all competitions for the Eagles over the course of the last two seasons.
It is believed that Bristol have had a bid of around £6million for Gayle accepted by Palace and the transfer fee could potentially rise to £8million depending on future incentives.
And Sportsmail understands Gayle has been told he faces being axed from all first-team affairs if he does not accept a switch to the West Country.
The arrival of Yohan Cabaye at Selhurst Park this summer has pushed him even further down the pecking order and another loan spell will be the best option for all concerned. “I don’t think anything has changed whilst we’ve been playing”.
He added: “It is down to the player whether he wishes to talk to us”.
Another suggestion has been that Gayle isn’t keen on moving to the Robins and that a move to another Premier League side is more favourable.
With Gayle yet to sign, Bristol have stepped up their interest in Brentford’s Andre Grey as well and are said to be battling Hull City for the £7m-rated striker.
