TY Hilton, Colts agree to five-year extension
“It’s a great day for the Indianapolis Colts, T.Y. Hilton and his family”, General Manager Ryan Grigson said, per the team’s official web site.
Per a league source, Hilton’s contract is a five-year extension, with a total value of $65 million.
Hilton’s agent Drew Rosenhaus had been in Anderson, Ind. while the team held training camp so we knew a deal would likely be worked out soon.
The talented young receiver managed to get a deal similar to that of Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas. Very few people believe he is as much of an impact receiver as Bryant or Thomas, yet his contract includes just $6 million less in guaranteed money. Hilton could have gotten more by waiting until February – and he also could have gotten a lot less. The deal isn’t technically signed yet, but the Colts have announced and Hilton has received congratulations from his teammates via twitter.
While the Colts drafting Phillip Dorsett (a Hilton clone) appeared to leave TY unhappy, there was never any real concern that Hilton would leave.
Hilton has been with the Colts since 2012 when the team drafted the wide receiver in the third round.
Left tackle Anthony Castonzo and tight ends Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen are also entering the final year of their contracts, and the Colts will presumably attempt to get one or all of them signed to a long-term deal at some point, as well.
Hilton was named to his first Pro Bowl in 2014 on the strength of 82 receptions that generated 1,345 yards and seven touchdowns He joined Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne as the only players in Colts history with multiple 1,000-yard seasons.
