30 cats taken from abandoned house in Belmont Central
Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC) is working with a cat organization called Tree House to remove the cats from 6207 W. Roscoe. The previous owner left the cats behind.
There is a hearing concerning the house and properly boarding it up today. “While Tree House has worked on many hoarding cases, this is certainly a challenging one given the number of cats as well as the time sensitive nature of the rescue effort”.
“Final week Tree Home rescued 14 cats and have individuals on website hoping to rescue extra”, stated Jenny Schlueter. She says, “The cats seem like they’re going to get the help they need and we finally seem to be getting the help we need with the house and the order and the flies and such”.
Animal management staff and a rescue group has taken at the very least 62 cats from an deserted home within the Belmont Central neighborhood and plan to take away extra quickly, authorities stated.
The clock is ticking because a judge has ordered that the home be boarded up tomorrow.
The home is abandoned and in foreclosure and is scheduled to be boarded up today. However, animal rescuer workers saw more cats inside and began another search.
Dave de Funiak executive director of the Tree House Humane Society says there are now dozens of cats that are being put up for adoption and, if not able to be adopted, to be put into managed cat colonies in order to act as rat abatement in some communities.
