Ashton Agar included in Australia squad for limited-overs matches

England will meet Australia in a Twenty20 global in Cardiff on August 31, before the five-match ODI series gets underway in Southampton on September 3.

Ashton Agar is named in the Australia squad for the upcoming limited-overs matches against England.

According Australia “A” team officials, it has not been decided as yet whether the six players would leave Chennai directly for England or return to their respective homes in Australia before joining the senior team in England.

The squad will be full of fresh faces, with the game against Ireland on August 27 to signal the start of Steve Smith’s reign as captain.

Stoinis is the chief beneficiary of Faulkner’s omission and has recently played on Australia’s “A” tour of India.

Burns is expected to replace injured opener Aaron Finch, while Agar is included at the expense of Nathan Lyon and plays England for the first time since a memorable Test debut in the 2013 Ashes series.

“Marcus has performed very well in India during the four-day series and we have always liked that option of the extra all-rounder in our side, so with James Faulkner’s unavailability, this is a great opportunity for Marcus.

It’s probably not three fast bowlers and one spinner”, chairman of selectors Rod Marsh said.

Burns proved he was “a very capable young batsman who has experience opening”, said Marsh.

“The squad we have selected has a few fresh faces in it as well as some experienced players that will provide us with the right balance, ” said Marsh.

Queensland and Hobart Hurricanes leg-spinner Cameron Boyce has been included for the T20 global but current T20 captain Aaron Finch was not selected after fracturing his foot while playing for Yorkshire last month.

Australia can be with out the providers of veterans Brad Haddin and Michael Clarke, who’ve introduced their retirement from the format after guiding the staff to their fifth World Cup in March.

World Cup-winners Mitchell Johnson and Josh Hazlewood have been given a rest.

Marsh said: “Ashton has performed very well with the ball since his return from shoulder surgery including taking five wickets in the recent Australia A game in India”.

And while Marsh says the NSP would enjoy having a leggie in the squad for upcoming tours in spin-friendly conditions, ultimately the form of the Pakistan-born asylum seeker dictated his selection.
