Amy Schumer Defends herself Against Critics, Says She is not Racist

Amy Schumer wants her haters to know she’s a comic and self-described “irreverent idiot”. She wrote that as a comic, there would naturally be materials that people would not be comfortable to hear jokes about but she doesn’t care. The joke then was met with an uncomfortable silence. The role went to Trevor Noah, who also came under scrutiny for old jokes on his Twitter account. Schumer plays a serial dater with what some have perceived as having an act-like-a-man-attitude. But the comedian whose star is rising fast and burning bright could probably stand to take some heat.

“Schumer’s stand-up repeatedly delves into racial territory tactlessly and with no apparent larger point”, the essay reads. One specific joke from Amy’s act the article mentions is “I used to date Latino guys”. “Now I prefer consensual”. As Goldstein also notes, Schumer throws her feminist shield up, which is a cute move, but not really a relevant or appropriate defense against someone calling you a racist.

Schumer wasn’t backing down after receiving the criticism.

“They would have to say, ‘We will let you be yourself, ‘” she adds. It is a joke and it is amusing I know that because people laugh at it. Even if you personally didn’t. It can be remembered that she was criticised as being racist by a Guardian article published early Sunday morning. But Schumer turned them down, claiming she’s not quite ready for a gig that predictable. “I am a devout feminist and lover of all people”.

Heisey’s argument isn’t without its flaws.

In this way, you can understand why Schumer responded so quickly, but the nature of that response has done nothing but aggravate the situation.
